Welcome
Should I have a website? To have or not to have.
The answer is an overwhelming yes, especially if you are running a business even if it is one-man operation. The better question is whether the website creation should be outsourced or done by way of DIY (Do-It-Yourself).
If this was 5 years ago, then it would be wise to outsource the development of the website. One needs to be somewhat more technically inclined to create a website then. Today it is a different story. With the coming of age of tools such as WordPress and Blogger, it had become much more easier to create one’s webpages. The need to know HTML and other coding had diminished over the years.
While one could use WordPress or even Blogger to do a professional website, I would personally recommend using WordPress. It is not that WordPress is any easier than Blogger, but there is a lot of plugins available for WordPress. Just by installing a plugin, the website could be customised according to the need of the business. Meaning different plugins could change the look and feel of the website.
Having your own domain name instead of a xxx.blogspot.com or xxx.wordpress.com is much better. Having www.yourdomain.com really brings professionalism to your business. In addition one could have an email address like yourname@yourdomain.com instead of using a free email service like gmail or Hotmail.
Today it is so easy to purchase a domain name. Just go over to Godaddy, which I am using myself. Generally it is a simple process to register a domain name. Once you had found the domain name you want, just follow the check-out process and it is done. Domain name registration is fairly inexpensive too, which is about USD12 per year. If you click on this link (Godaddy Great Savings), occasionally you could get a good deal, even as low as USD7.50 a year.
The other thing one must get is hosting to host the domain name. Someone once gave this very good analogy. Domain name is like the address of our house and hosting is like the land our house sits on. Again it is fairly inexpensive. Only about USD10 a month. I would recommend Hostgator, which is what I am using myself. The link is Try Hostgator Hosting.
